Guest written by our friend Donnie Donovan I’m now convinced you can make a television show out of just about anything you can dream of. I recently caught an episode of TLC’s Extreme Couponing ontv by direct These folks are hard core dedicated to saving money! They spend over 40 hours preparing for their shopping trip that is every cashier’s worst nightmare. Multiple buggies filled with ridiculous number of the same items and a number of coupons that will make your head spin. During my first episode, I found myself sitting there with my jaw dropped. $800 worth of groceries for $3.78. Sounds great right? WRONG! I could never ever do this for many reasons. First, I would never spend hours preparing for a shopping trip. My time has value! Even at minimum wage rates, it is just not worth it. Second, none of these people need 35 boxes of mac and cheese or 175 pop tarts. Their diets are ruled by what they paid pennies for and not a single bit of it is healthy. And last but not least, and this is a personal opinion but I could never ever put a poor cashier through the agony of a 2 hour checkout session. That would drive anyone extremely insane. |
